Icy Cool Commission Stage 3

The icy mural is sliding along quickly now. Today I finished the sides and flipped everything over to glue into place. At this stage I get really impatient and just want to grout to see it finished. Nearly there just the name plate to do now.Ice Hotel Mural

Icy Cool Commission Stage 2

So, one week and a few cut fingers later, I have completed the front of the Ice Hotel, bedroom mural. I have tried to replicate the clients photo as best I can with a few changes to the circular section of ice behind the bed. I have used iridescent whites and blues for the majority of areas and mirror for the snowflake motif. The photo below shows the back of the mural which will be flipped over to grout to reveal the ‘shiny’ side. This is called the indirect method for those interested.

Red Sun Table

This is my latest furniture commission. A smaller version of my Blue Sun Table. The Red Sun Table has happily and successfully travelled to its new home in South Germany. I worked to requested measurements and specifics such as the darker grout and dominance of red tiles. I like the contrast to the Blue Sun Table, they would make an interesting nest of tables. I may have to design a set of interlocking tables next, just for fun… that could be my next challenge!

My latest commission was a surprise birthday gift, a mosaic mirror for a childs bedroom. Tilly loves elephants so I set about creating some designs for Mum and Dad to choose. The following photos show the design process and the making stages I went through in order to complete “Flo”.

My Motivational Sketchbook Quotes

As an artist, there always comes a time when you have self doubt :about what you are doing, what your goals are, whether you will ever achieve your dreams, how will you make it happen and how will you stay happy along the way.

So at times like these I create a little motivational art to help me along my path.

These designs are for my latest commission from Vanessa and Chris. They would like a mural for their lounge. The brief is based so far around “Alice in Wonderland” and I have been including the initials of all the family members.

Photos of Mirrors before

Photos of Mirrors before

I have just found some old photographs of Mosaic Mirrors I did when I first started way back before the Internet. Thought I’d show just for fun.

Large Mosaic Mirror

I’ve just put my Purple 40cm Square Mosaic Mirror onto Folksy today. I’m going to post one a day. Blue gecko day tomorrow.

Lady Gecko Day 3

Lady gecko is finished and grouted.

Lady Gecko

I’m not sure why but I preferred her before grouting, maybe it’s the colour of the grout.  I think white would have been better and brighter but I only had grey left.   Off to shops to stock up this afternoon.

Lady Gecko Day 3

Lady gecko is finished …well almost I just need to grout  and smooth off some sharp edges. I’m really pleased.  Although it’s funny how different it looks in the photo, you spot things that are not obvious as you are making.
